I knew it was inevitable and I was ready to seek help as soon as those hot flushes kicked in! As I moved into my late 40s, they hadn\u2019t arrived and I thought nothing of it. Separately, I was getting increasingly uncomfortable joint pain, which no one was able to diagnose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was only when I started working in a women&#8217;s health company that I realised the joint pain might be a symptom of menopause. I went to my GP, who sent me to see a gynaecologist. I had a scan and a small procedure. Eventually I insisted that I be allowed to try HRT \u2013 the difference was immeasurable! To this day I\u2019ve never had a hot flush and, if I didn\u2019t work in the industry, I would never have known that my joint pain was due to the menopause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Reflection: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022When you think of menopause symptoms, what else do you think of besides hot flushes? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Other than a GP appointment, where else can women learn about menopause symptoms?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>We have obtained permission from the author to publish their story as part of the Our Collective Voice campaign.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had never been \u2018scared\u2019 of approaching the menopause.
